KHOSROV FOREST STATE RESERVE

Iris lycotis

Welcome

Dear visitor,

We are happy to invite you to take a journey across this newly created website dedicated to the premier protected area of Armenia, Khosrov Reserve. Browsing over it, you will be able to know more about its history, structure, location, geology, climate, water, habitats, flora, fauna, historical heritage and on-going projects. Particular attention we have paid to description of rare and endangered species of wildlife.

Having read this information, you might want to look at the pictures of the reserve’s landscapes, historical monuments, flora and fauna which are available in the photo gallery.

The primary goal of this website is to provide brief, but concentrated, information to all those people who would like to visit Armenia and contemplate its beautiful nature. Trying not to avert the reader’s attention by data overload, we have left a substantial portion of information behind the website. You are welcome to contact us if you have specific questions or inquiries and we will try to help you as much as we can.

Heritage

Khosrov Reserve and its vicinities are very rich in historical monuments, such as abandoned settlements, khachkars (cross-stones), churches and others. As a matter of national pride, they have been preserved in good condition.

Landscape

Khosrov Reserve is dominated by forests, grasslands and arid scrub communities over a precipitous terrain with a wide range of elevations.

Fauna

Fauna of Khosrov Reserve represents a diverse array of charismatic species (mammalian predators, raptors) and less notable, but not less interesting, smaller species. Some of them are rare and endangered.

Flora

In spite of historically high levels of human pressure, flora of Khosrov Reserve is very diverse and rich in rare, endangered and endemic species.
